The GMC company is founded in the USA on September 16, 1908 by William Durant who already had the Buick company by that moment. Originally the headquarters of the company was in Flint's city, and then moved to Detroit.
Since the beginning of the 1930th years - the largest car maker in the USA and in the world. I entered into "the big three" of car makers: GM, Ford, Chrysler. At the beginning of the 1980th the company faced various problems and for the first time in 60 years showed a loss following the results of a year.
At the end of the first decade of the XXI century the financial condition of GM strongly worsened. On June 1, 2009 the company started bankruptcy procedure (article 11th of the federal law of the USA about bankruptcy) — the corresponding claim was submitted to court of the Southern Federal District of New York. According to bankruptcy conditions, the U.S. Government provided to the company about $30 billion, and in exchange received 60% of shares of concern, the government of Canada — 12% of actions for $9,5 billion, the Joint labor union of workers of automotive industry of the USA (OPRAP) — 17,5% of actions. Other 10,5% of actions were divided among themselves by the largest creditors of concern. The U.S. President Barack Obama declared that the state doesn't plan to control GM always and will get rid of a controlling stake as soon as the financial position of concern improves. As a result of July 10, 2009 the new independent company General Motors Company was created. Old GM (General Motors Corporation) was renamed into Motors Liquidation Company.
It was supposed that after bankruptcy the concern will be divided into two companies, in first of which the most unprofitable divisions, and will enter the second — the most profitable Chevrolets and Cadillac. In particular, in 2009 GM planned to sell unprofitable Opel, and one of applicants for purchase was the consortium of the Magna International company and the Russian Sberbank. However at the beginning of November of GM made the decision to leave Opel to itself, motivating it is the outlined exit of branch from crisis and unwillingness to leave from the market of midget cars.
At the end of 2010 GM carried out the public placement of shares which became to one of the largest in the history. During placement of the U.S. Government and Canada, become the main shareholders at bankruptcy in 2009, realized the actions for the total amount of $23,1 billion.1 - 50 | 51 - 100 | 101 - 150 | 151 - 200 | 201 - 250 | 251 - 300 | 301 - 350 | 351 - 400 | 401 - 450 | 451 - 489
