Production of truly British company Allard differs originality and, at the same time, conservatism. The design is original, but quality is constant. The company was based in 1937 by Sydney Herbert Allard who, certainly, called a child in the honour. Feeding passion to sports cars, having a big share of actions of Ford, he decided that in a condition to let out own cars. And here, in 1937, Sydney made the Allard Special model, having borrowed the chassis at Ford, and a body at Bugatti. It should be noted that in the history of motor industry always there were many loans. Allard did not become an exception.
Further the engine of this car was modified: its capacity increased. The car was lighted in many competitions. Allard J-1, Allard K-1 and Allard L C the first fruits of creativity of designers of the company. The first model was racing and was very powerful. Allard L had four seats, all models had very easy bodies.
In 1949 on cars started to establish Steyr engines firms which made in the beginning military equipment that could not affect appearance and functional features of the engine of models. Certainly, Allard altered a cursor a little, however, the decision caused bewilderment in the automobile world.
The Allard J-2 model became the following break in the history of the company. On it established the back De Dion Bridge having a spring suspension bracket that became feature of brand. Further motors underwent such changes: Steyr were replaced by "American" of Mercury, then the turn of Cadillac'a approached, and to it Chrysler came to change. The J-2 car repeatedly won races, it became the primogenitor of several other models. Engine displacement of this car made about 5,5 litres, and the capacity in 160 horsepowers allowed to gather speed to 176 km/h. The transmission had 3 steps. On the design this model was similar to any other car at which cut off a top, however, something it reminded racing cars of the present probably, the unusual look, and, perhaps, and the streamlined body.
One is clear the J-2 model was not similar to the majority of cars of the present. Actually, the only thing in what Allard caused a stir so it is design. A body the roadster, wings over wheels and a racing look involved public attention, and bought cars not only for races. Fans of extreme driving also did not deprive them of attention. But it is possible to tell precisely that production of Allard firm found the popularity in the USA.
Rather high cost of latest models of cars and increase in a tax at such mechanisms lowered demand for company production. Attempts to be rehabilitated, having let out the Palm Beach model developed on the basis of engines of Ford and the Jaguar to anything did not lead, and in 1957 the firm was compelled to stop the work. Besides, competitors (the same Jaguar) did not doze, thinking out all new updatings. Even true Allard Americans preferred a domestic production. The development made by Allard after, served for creation of an English dregster. And, some decades later, in Canada there was a plant making cars, outwardly not distinguishable from Allard. It can nostalgia?1 - 17
