The known automobile company De Tomaso Automobili was founded by the resident of Argentina Alejandro de Tomaso in 1959 in the city of Modena. Racing cars were the first models, subsequently the company began to make excellent sport cars and luxury cars.
Beginning of history
Alejandro De Tomaso was born in Buenos Aires on July 10, 1928. His father was the outstanding politician and belonged to one of the oldest Spanish-speaking families standing at the origins of development of the Argentina agriculture. Having interrupted study, Alejandro decided to devote the life to cars. At the age of 27 years he arrived in Modena, got a job the mechanic in the Maserati company, and soon held a position of the racer tester. Its biggest achievements in this quality were connected with the O.S.C.A company which was founded by brothers of Maserati after sale of "Maserati". In 1959 Alejandro De Tomaso, feeling that some changes are necessary, founded the own automobile company. The assembly enterprises were constructed in Albareto, suburb of Modena.
In 1965 the management of De Tomaso made the decision on joint activity with the American concern Ford. This cooperation lasted up to 1975. All these years the companies actively were engaged in production of available cars.
The first public car De Tomaso, Vallelunga, presented in 1963. It was equipped with the engine from the company Ford, and the maximum speed made 215 km/h.
The car was constructed on the aluminum chassis which became standard function of the De Tomaso models.
One of the first cars ate from the flat 8-cylinder engine which was developed by the engineer Massimino.
On early models a forward front grille were it is equipped with double headlights, and the seven-inch moving-forward headlight is installed in the subsequent cars –. One of the first cars of the DeTomaso Mangusta company had a steel body, the weight of a car made 1409 kilograms. Its magnificent design was distinctive feature of Mangusta. Mangusta was laid off in 1970.
This car and enjoys today popularity among collectors motorists.
New milestones in the history of De Tomaso
In the mid-seventies absolutely new era in the history of De Tomaso begins. The company signs the new agreement on creation of joint venture with the Ford company. Production of the Pantera model was a main goal. The stylish design of the car was ideally combined with the powerful engine in 330 h.p. This cooperation lasted till 1990.
The market of high-performance sports cars was considerably reduced at the beginning and the middle of the 1970th years for all producers of exotic cars in connection with an energy crisis, De Tomaso didn't become an exception. It led finally to Ford's parting and De Tomaso. Years of cooperation weren't in vain – 5300 units sold in the USA were let out, sales of Pantera GTS proceeded in Europe.
The next years were hard for the company: demand for cars decreased, cars became available only to wealthy clients, and some firms which are a part of the company were sold. But the company persistently combated for a survival. And in 1996 there was a model under the name Guara, and in a year – the new Bigua car.
In 2004 process of liquidation of the company was begun, and in 2009 it was got by Gian Mario Rossignolo.
The new model of 2011 of De Tomaso Deauville is a 5-door crossover, the equipped AWD with electronic control of system of draft.
