Donkervoort

Donkervoort Automobielen BV — the producer of sports cars located in Lelystad in the Netherlands. The made cars are based on design of Lotus Seven. Modern open Donkervoort cars are designed under the motto "Without Compromises" that means driving without electronic supportive applications, including ABS, ESP, and also without power steering.

Donkervoort was founded in 1978 by Joop Donkervoort. Initially the company was placed in a small shed in Tienhoven, some years later moved to Losdrekht where many cars were constructed. In 2000 the company got over to completely new room located to Lelystad where today all Donkervoort cars are developed and made.

In 1996 the cooperation agreement was signed with Audi about delivery of engines. Earlier Ford Zetec engines were used.

In 2007 on a motor show in Geneva the producer presented the first Donkervoort model with the closed body — Donkervoort D8 GT which since the beginning of 2008 went to production.

All Donkervoort models are a product of handwork of the qualified handicraftsman. Until recently all Donkervoort were equipped with Ford engines, but the partnership was stopped in 1996 when the joint venture with Audi opened.

The first models were equipped with 2-liter OHC Ford engines which were replaced with Garret engines with the turbo later. Zetec and Cosworth engines were the last, put by the Ford company which found a place under Donkervoort cowl.

Since 1999 only 1,8 l Audi engines with a turbo-supercharging were used. In a year after introduction of Audi engines, the new modern plant in Loosdrecht where the company still continues the work was constructed. Being far from the mass producer of cars, the Donkervoort plant annually delivers some hundreds of cars.

All Donkervoort cars maybe look approximately equally, but they can be done under the order. It is possible to choose from various options, beginning from color, materials of a design of a body and options of finishing of salon. Nevertheless, the main quality of Donkervoort there is its controllability. Low position of the driver and big distribution of weight, and also very easy management and obedient brakes provide pleasure with driving.

The last posterity of the Dutch producer is the powerful D8 GT model with the closed top and with good opportunities of participation in races. All Donkervoort models are delivered with standard elements of the racing car, such as stabilizers of cross stability, and many owners prefer to go by these the car on race circuits, but not on usual roads.
