The history of the world famous company "Lancia" originates on November 27, 1906 when the greatest automobile racer Vincenzo Lancia in common with the friend Claudio Fodzholini founded the Fabbrica Automobili Lancia company which headquarters is in Turin to this day.
The first car of this brand was released later less than half a year since day of foundation, and left to the world under the name, unclear for many, - Lancia 18-24 HP. The presentation of a car took place on September 23, 1907 in Turin. The main emphasis in production of the car was placed not only on appearance and aerodynamics of a car, but also on high technical rates of the vehicle. So optimum combination of ease, compactness, comfort, and speed of a driving made Lancia 18-24 HP the car which in only a few months entered the market and was in unprecedented demand for many years. It should be noted also that fact that the main segment of the market of automotive industry in Italy at that time was occupied by the Fiat company, whose cars were cheaper at cost, but were inferior to Lancia both on speed, and on convenience. Lancia 18-24 HP gathered the speed over 80 km/h that was almost unattainable for mass automotive industry of the beginning of the XX century.
Lancia Alfa – the following model of the company. The car was equipped with the 2,5 liters high-speed four-cylinder engine and developed power to 28 h.p. The 4-speed transmission provided a torque transmission on back wheels by means of a shaft, but not chains as it was on the majority of cars of that time. The car didn't demand frequent maintenance and repair as approximately following slogan was the motto of the company: "That who understands", or "For those who understands". From the moment of the basis Lancia, a problem of high-quality assembly of a car was for engineers and designers on the first place.
Despite a number of the innovations applied in a car, and also high engine capacity, Lancia Alfa nevertheless I couldn't escape in "top", and already 5 years later from plant in Turin there was the following model – Lancia Theta. It is the first car in the world equipped with electric start. This model became famous in Italy and in the world in general as very strong and high-quality unit capable for many years smoothly to serve the owner. Besides, Lancia Theta – the first-ever car on which serial installation of an electric lighting began that gave to the car additional success and trust among potential buyers.
With 1906, years of establishment of the company, the success of "Fabbrica Automobili Lancia" was incredibly high. The small number of the European automobile giants managed "to beat out" for so short period of time to itself a worthy place in the market and to win high credibility among motorists. As it was already mentioned, engineers and the designer of "Lancia" did the main emphasis in production on quality of the car at the expense of what Lancia successfully held in Italy the leading positions in the sphere of automotive industry.
The presentation of Lancia Lambda, the car which shook motorists around the world became the following stage in development of the company. The mass production of this car proceeded from 1921 to 1932. In this car the independent forward suspension bracket on vertical damping racks that gave to smoothness of the course and confidence of a car on the road was for the first time established. From plant of the company there were over 13 000 Lancia Lambda in nine different modifications.
The Fabbrica Automobili Lancia company was popular not only in the territory of the Appeninsky peninsula, but also in a number of the European states. Until presentation on Turinsk of motor show in 1950 Lancia Aurelia, from conveyors of the enterprise managed to leave such models of a car as Lancia Astura, Lancia Augusta and Lancia Aprilia. But, unfortunately, any of these cars couldn't take roots in production, due to the lack of great demand.
Lancia Aurelia was issued in a complete set with the 1,7 l V-shaped six-cylinder engine capable to develop power to 56 horsepowers. Contemporaries spoke of the car exclusively positively. Until presentation of a car was considered that the similar engine even can't be theoretically installed on the car, but engineers and designers of the Fabbrica Automobili Lancia company managed to make impossible then the name "Lancia" started sounding even more prestigiously, and to become the owner of the car of this brand any motorist respecting itself wanted.
Lancia Flaminia became not less necessary model of a car of the Fabbrica Automobili Lancia company, certainly, which became history. Main and distinctive feature of this model of janitors steel of back glass. It was the innovation which is earlier not applied in automotive industry. Lancia Flaminia for 13 years was positioned as the leader of automobile sales in Italy, and also beyond its limits.
The new stage in the history of development of firm began from the moment of merge of "Fabbrica Automobili Lancia" to the most powerful automobile concern "Fiat". There was it in 1969. Despite times, not absolutely successful for the company, engineers and the designer continued the work, and already 3 years later after "privatization" of Lancia works on the Gamma project were begun. From the moment of an exit of Lancia Delta which first version descended from the conveyor in 1979, the new era of development of the Italian company began. This car gathered speed to 100 km/h in 7,5 seconds that was a quite good indicator for those times.
During the 80th years from factory conveyors there were such Lancia models as Ypsilon, Delta, Dedra, Kappa and Zeta.
