The history of the Mini company is a history of the most compact cars in the world. It began in the late forties when John Cooper registered the Cooper Car Company trademark. In production the support was made on racing cars, the Cooper 500 model became first of which. The five-time world champion Juan Manuel Fanjio sat at the first sport car of "Formula-2" of Cooper firm.
In 1959 absolutely new car for world automotive industry which founder was John Cooper's son – Mike was released. Emergence of the first Mini model caused furor. The need for the small, economic car was high, as set engineers thinking on modification. As a result it turned out two the modified cars – Cooper and Cooper S.
The public apprehended emergence of new models cool, quite low price of a car (only 497 pounds sterling) didn't rescue even. For the first year only about 20 thousand cars were sold.
Since the beginning of the 60th production relics of the company grew. In 1960 more than 100 thousand cars were released already, and in 1962 this indicator grew twice, having held on at such level till 1977. In the mid-sixties John Cooper achieved numerous victories on the modernized Mini Cooper. But, despite so high popularity and positive responses, production Cooper it was stopped in 1971.
The Mini company found inconceivable popularity. By these cars members of royal family made trips across England, group Beatles, St. Petersburg Ustinov, Charles Aznavour, and Enzo Ferrari got in the collection already three copies of this car.
Over time the world market of cars was replenished all with new and new models and the manufacturing companies, but Mini didn't lose the popularity thanks to high availability and low cost of the child. It was noted by Austin Rover concern which began to let out a car – let and not in very big, but enough.
The profit of the company left much to be desired. But legendary John Cooper and his son Mike kept a name of not less legendary car. To satisfy a growing demand for Cooper, they let out customized sets and accessories which allowed to turn conveyor Mini into the loaded Mini Cooper.
In 1990 the Mini car again "returned to life". At that time the car was made at Rover Group plants. Demand for it only grew in this connection, the John Cooper Works production company not to lose popularity, let out sets for the engine and a running gear. These cars were delivered to fans of Mini around the world.
Existence of the original Mini car ended on the 41st year. The last car of an old sample was released on October 4, 2000, and about five and a half million copies were sold for all history of tiny cars. Further the history of this car began with a new leaf.
The Mini company was resold more than once, and in recent years the brand was under the direction of Rover Group. Soon the Rover group took over by BMW then, on developed circumstances, the "automobile" office was given to Volkswagen concern.
Revival of a legend began the British press with an extensive discussion of the company. Founders of "old" Mini took part in discussion even. Some of the major questions were on the agenda: how to keep identity of brand and, at the same time, to make it modern on external signs and safety.
2001 became year of establishment of a new car – NewMini. And in 2002, besides the One and Cooper models, to the conveyor there was a new model surpassing them in power - Cooper S. The engine of this car developed power in 163 horsepowers therefore Mini Cooper S appeared the "strongest" model of this class of a car.
