The history of the Spyker brand begins in 1880 when brothers Jacob and Hendrik Spaykerami of a ball founded the company which was engaged in release of horse crews and vehicles. 15 years later brothers already sold Benz brand cars in the Netherlands, and in 1900 Hendrik and Jacob released the first series of the Spyker cars equipped 2-and the 4-cylinder engine with a power of 5 horsepowers with a working capacity of 1885 and 3770 cubic centimeters, and also a 2-speed transmission. Despite a number of the innovative engineering decisions applied in Spyker, demand for it I was very low.
At the end of 1903 Spyker with the new motor at which the cooling water was circulated on the special spiral tubes passing round combustion chambers and cylinders was issued. The same year on the project of the engineer from Belgium Joseph Liaviolett brothers released the unusual Spyker 50HP car which became the first-ever all-wheel drive racing car.
Brothers understood that the all-wheel drive of the high-speed car will be able to increase traction force on any road and will help to increase speed when passing turns. Besides, wheels of Spyker 50HP were equipped with special drum brakes. The additional brake was located on day off to a gear shifting box shaft. Besides a usual 3-staged transmission, transmission of Spyker 50HP was equipped also with a 2-staged transfer case.
Development of a design of such car appeared quite difficult business therefore tests quite often came to an end unsuccessfully. Because of continuous breakages the planned mass production of model wasn't embodied in reality. Some copies with the 4-cylinder motor were let out.
Later the firm releases two new cars: Spyker 16HP and Spyker 24HP with 2-and 4-cylinder engines respectively. However these models were also comprehended by failure in the market, after all demand for them was extremely small. In 1904 the Spyker company presented the Dustless model (in translation Ц "dust-free"). The car received the name not just like that as the body was executed in such a way that road dust couldn't get into a motor compartment and salon. Same year brothers released the first electric carburetor. The Spyker company gradually won popularity in the European automobile market. During the period from 1904 to 1906 brothers achieved serious progress, delivering big parties of the cars to England. By 1906 the model range of firm already included 4 models - 30/40NR, 20/30HP, 15/24 HP and 12/16HP. They were equipped with engines with a volume from 2,5 to 8 liters. The oval radiator Ц the business card of Spyker became distinctive feature of all these cars.
In 1907 one of brothers, Hendrik, tragicly was lost in the North Sea by the sunk ship "Berlin". This трагеди¤о was negatively reflected in affairs of the company. All accounting affairs of firm were shouldered the younger brother Ц Jacob Spiker who approximately during the same period of time decided to expose model 12/16HP on heavy run from Beijing to Paris. However anything, besides huge financial expenses, it didn't bring. As a result Jacob was discharged by meeting of shareholders of Spyker firm of the management, and in 1908 the firm was announced by the bankrupt. However in few months of Spyker revived, again having begun production of cars.
The being issued models a little than differed from predecessors. High-speed Spyker 40/80HP, with an engine displacement of 10 l became the only new model, but it was made only in limited quantity. In 1909 tireless Joseph Liaviolett offered absolutely new type of the silent engine on worm gears. Having made a 4-cylinder sample, after its steel to establish on the Spyker 25HP and Spyker 40HP model.
After World War I of Spyker resumed release of the car 25/ZONR with the 3,6 liters 4-cylinder engine equipped with lateral valves. On these models the sports bodies similar to a plane fuselage were used, mostly. For it a series was also called Aerocoque.
After a while a series was replaced by the C4 car equipped with the engine of the German firm Maybach of 5,4 l. In post-war years demand for production of Spyker catastrophically fell. Only 450 cars of this brand were sold for the six-year time period. The company, trying to look for ways of an exit from long crisis, I started releasing trucks with the American accessories. Under the license agreement also release of the French small Mathis cars equipped with the engine with a working volume of 1,2 liters was adjusted. Despite all these steps, the Spyker company in 1925 was compelled to stop release of cars.
However 75 years later she rose from the dead. In 2000 the Spyker firm was revived. Practically at once it was officially declared acquisition of team of Formula One of Midland which already since the next season was presented under a name of the Dutch producer in races of "a royal class".
The sport car of Spyker C12 which was modified later in Spyker C12 Zagato became the most successful not racing model during this time. This car, which design was developed by the Italian studio of design, equipped with the 12-cylinder engine from the 500 horsepowers Volkswagen, capable to disperse to 310 km/h, having gained first "one hundred" in 3,8 seconds.
In the next time it is planned to let out one more modification of this surprising car, having replaced the engine with 500-strong with the 650-strong. However the cost of such car exceeds even 500 thousand dollars that does it by ideal option only for rich people.
