In 1954 in South Korea there was a company under the name Hadonghwan Motor Company. Mainly she was engaged in production of commercial cars - buses, trucks, and also cars of a special purpose - concrete mixers, fire trucks and others. Besides, especially for the American army Jeep cars were delivered. In 1976 the name of the company was changed to Dong-A Motor, and still after a while, in 1984, - to SsangYong Group.
In two years of SsangYong Group it was succeeded to get the Keohwa Motors company, already famous producer of SUVs of the Korando brand. Based on long-term experience of both companies, active work on absolutely new format of the car began. So in 1988 the Korean market was entered by the first sports SUV - SsangYong Korando. Exactly thanks to this all-wheel drive car the SsangYong company became known. The same year the Korean producer got little-known British firm Panther and passed to release of double classical roadsters of Panther Kallista.
At the beginning of the 90th the last century the giant of mechanical engineering - Mercedes-Benz AG paid attention to the company which already proved in the Korean market. It made considerable capital investments in SsangYong for the purpose of cooperation in development of new technologies. Thus, in 1991 projects of small-sized trucks were developed. One year later the SsangYong company signed the strategic agreement on joint development of engines with Mercedes-Benz AG, and was engaged in export of sports cars of Kallista out of borders of Korea.
In 1993 the first Musso descended from the factory conveyor. This sports car was brightly allocated with design. Massive forms of a body, unusual execution of optics drew at once to themselves attention. Besides, the model is completed with two types of engines - the diesel different volume and power (2,9 l / 99 in h.p.; 2,3 l / 80 h.p.), and also one 3,2 l petrol 6-cylinder unit / 220 h.p. Successfully combining the acceptable price and high quality, the car quickly proved in the market of inexpensive SUVs.
Partner autobuilders were accepted to development of large commercial transport and diesel engines. Subsequently in 1994 in the city of Chanvon the motor plant at which the SsangYong company itself makes engines was open. Exactly in a year of SsangYong it was succeeded to release the first small-sized commercial Istana car. Besides, in successfully developing Korean company the center of logistics started working.
In 1997, besides SUVs and small commercial transport, the SsangYong enterprise began release of cars of a business class - SsangYong Chairman. The model was so successful that is issued and to this day. It is equipped with the V-shaped 6-cylinders engine, spacious leather salon, modern lighting engineering with LED elements, cruise - and climate control, and resembles Mercedes S-class superficially.
High quality and good initial complete set of this car allowed the company to become the leader in the market. But by the end of 1997 the played economic crisis captured all countries of Asia therefore in 1998 the SsangYong company merged with Daewoo Group. At that time all models were issued under one Daewoo brand.
However crisis took place, and the SsangYong company rather quickly again "got on feet". 2000 brought it independence. Besides, active work on search of new technological decisions was continued. In 2001 the company brought to the market a new product - the SUV of the class "premium" of Rexton. This car – a bright example of the best world development: extravagant design and reliable equipment, simplicity and functionality.
The car interior is issued by a leather upholstery, and equipment includes heating of seats, a full electropackage, climate control, frontal and lateral safety cushions. The car is completed with both mechanical, and automatic transmissions. Especially interesting the car looks in areas with unpleasant climate as it was developed for use in severe climatic conditions. Except usual heating, the car is equipped with heating of external rear-view mirrors, screen wipers and a back window. The system automatically starts working at ignition inclusion if temperature falls below +5 degrees Celsius.
After this model I debuted also SsangYong Musso Sports – the improved SsangYong Musso version. The comfortable and functional car not for nothing found popularity. In it the speed, reliability, the pleasant price and high workmanship is combined: frame design, license motors and transmissions of Mercedes-Benz. Big light units, the chromeplated radiator lattice – these changes were undergone by the basic Musso version. Sportswear to the pickup was given by a relief bumper with big air inlets, wide nadkrylka and spoilers on thresholds. And its dynamism is emphasized by longitudinal pro-stampings on a cowl and wings. The inside of a body is protected from scratches and chips by a paint and varnish covering, and boards and a floor are covered with black plastic panels.
In 2003 there were updated New Chairman and New Rexton versions, and in 2004 SsangYong Rodius – 11-seater לאךנמגם started being issued. The basic complete set included leather salon, safety cushions of the driver and the passenger, anti-blocking system (ABS), system of distribution of brake efforts (EBD, EBV), lobbies and back electrowindow regulators, the CD player, climate control and cruise control. It not simply classical family car, but maximum convenience and elegance on the way.
A year later, in September, 2005, on a motor show in Frankfurt debuted one more SsangYong Kyron SUV. It is the most popular model from all representatives of brand. The latest diesel engine 2.0Xdi had a capacity in 141 "horse", and use of common rail system did the engine silent and economic. The salon was sustained in black or beige color with metal inserts. Quality of finishing materials was to the taste even to the most exacting client.
And in 2006 the first SsangYong Actyon descended from the conveyor. This car – the hybrid of the SUV and a sedan equipped with the 2,3 liters petrol engine (150 h.p.), or a turbodiesel of 2,0 liters (141 h.p.). Both motors are made according to the license DaimlerChrysler. The basic complete set includes safety cushions, ABS, climate control, heating of forward seats, electric drives of mirrors and window regulators, and also the audio system with six loudspeakers.
Thanks to the aspiration to leadership, and also big efforts in continuous improvement of quality, the SsangYong company deservedly found glory of one of the best Korean brands and definitely isn't going to stop on it.
