The Studebaker company has a long and interesting story. Prerequisites of its origin are traced from the middle of a distant XVIII century. Then the family Studebekkerov which some generations in a row was engaged in forge and weapon business, got over from Germany to the United States of America, and already here continued to go in for the craft.
The first van bearing the name Studebaker was designed by the great-great-grandfather of founders of the company Clement Studebaker in 1750. And hundred years later, Henry and young Clement Studebaker based the matter in the American state of Indiana is there was a smithy under the name H&C Studebaker. Here they were engaged in assembly of the same farmer vans which at that time very poorly reminded cars.
Some years later one more brother Henry and Clement – John joined small firm H&C Studebaker. He spent some time in the city of Hengtaun, State of California, in search of gold, but in spite of the fact that I found nothing, managed "to hammer together" the quite good capital on realization of stock for hunters of it. Having returned to the hometown, John enclosed all savings in the company organized by brothers. And in a year the first cargo van was let out.
In 1861 civil war began, and the army of North side made the order to brothers on construction of vans. As a result, before the end of war in 1965, some hundreds of vans and vehicles were let out, and the company gained recognition and gratitude from the new U.S. Government for fast and high-quality work.
The enterprise quickly grew and developed. In post-war years two more brothers – Peter and Jacob entered family business. The company was renamed into Studebaker Brothers Manufacturing Company. And in 1885 it became producer number one around the world as regards crews and vehicles, having let out 75 thousand copies of the equipment only in a year.
Studebekkera's brothers tried to develop new models, and by the end of the XVIII century they let out various automobile crews, such as "droshkies" and "phaetons". This company designed a ceremonial landau for the president of the United States Willis Simpson of Grant.
In 1946 the same designer offered the updated models though other companies sold pre-war options. It were the new Champion, Commander and Land Cruiser versions completed with powerful "shestyorka" of 2,7 and 3,7 liters. The falls of criticism, but, despite it fell upon the company, in 1949 Levi again brought new, absolutely unusual models in design which were equipped with an automatic transmission and an independent suspension bracket to the market. Sales volumes again spread up, and reached a point in 200 000 cars a year!
In two years the company exposed on the market the Studebaker car with the 3,8 liters V-shaped 8-cylinder motor, and in 1954 the Studebaker enterprise absorbed the Packard company – the producer of elite models of a car. Attempt of adjustment of production of cars of different classes was soon carried out that, subsequently, brought Packard into decline.
And a year later and the company Studebaker, because of incorrectly chosen direction, again appeared in a crisis situation. In 1956 the enterprise managed to develop more successful models, but sales volumes inevitably fell. As a result representatives of Studebaker made the decision to sell Packard of Curtiss-Wright aircraft company and reduced production at the main plants in Saus Bende.
Further the company managed to lift sales only once – in 1959. But in a year the situation again changed for the worse. New models of cars were let out: Silver Hawk equipped with V-shaped "eight" of 4,7 liters, and also Lark sedan. And in 1962 I debuted the updated Lark with the extended base and sports Avanti.
In 1963 the president of the company Studebaker, Bayersom Barlingeym, made the decision on production closing. Cars of this brand were issued till 1966, but the name Studebaker was strong entered in history of the American automotive industry.1 - 50 | 51 - 100 | 101 - 150 | 151 - 200 | 201 - 202
